#ITSTARTS with us

The Library is taking part in a County-wide photo/video campaign in support of our diverse community. #ITSTARTS is a public awareness campaign designed to encourage community stakeholders to engage in proactive steps towards addressing racism and discrimination in Simcoe County.

Pick up your pledge cards for the #ITSTARTS campaign at the Library. While you’re here, fill in a leaf about yourself for our Diversity Tree.

Here’s more information, from the Simcoe County Local Immigration Partnership:

How to get involved:

When:  The campaign runs from June 1 – 30, 2017

Who:  Everyone.  The Pledge is open to everyone living/working/visiting in Simcoe County.

1)    Pick up a pledge card from your local library branch, download a digital copy from simcoe.ca/ITSTARTS, or request copies from the Local Immigration Partnership (sclip@simcoe.ca).

2)    Take a photo of yourself or group holding the pledge card and show your support by making the cards visible (office fronts, work spaces, etc.).

3)    Share the photo on social media (Twitter @simcoecounty and Facebook @CountyofSimcoe) using #ITSTARTS.

4)    Take a short video (no more than 30 seconds in length).  The video should be about how you are taking action against racism or discrimination, the value of diversity, or how diversity strengthens Simcoe County.  Share the video on social media using #ITSTARTS.

5)    Educate yourself.  Visit simcoe.ca/ITSTARTS for definitions and resources on how to take safe and purposeful action against racism and discrimination.  Information is geared to a wide-range of community sectors.

As Simcoe County continues to grow and diversify, the pledge sends a positive message that Simcoe County is a healthy and welcoming community to live, work, and play.

Join us in the pledge campaign and encourage friends, family members, colleagues, and community leaders to participate.  There is strength in numbers!

Recognizing Our Volunteers

In honour of National Volunteer Week (April 23 – 29) the library would like to take this opportunity to publicly recognize the dedicated efforts of the many volunteers who help ensure that our high quality programs, services and collections are made possible. Through their tireless commitment, these individuals not only contribute to the library’s mandate, but also to the Bradford community.

Dynamic, entertaining and informative programs and services are made possible through the dedicated fundraising efforts of the Friends of the Library, who organize such major events as their semi-annual book sales and author visits. A host of other volunteers dedicate their time and energy assisting with programs and other library-related tasks such as Drop-in LEGO, Family Saturdays and the provision of our Homebound Library Service. Others help contribute to the development of our Local History Collections and ensure important information is preserved and available for future generations of researchers. Thanks to our teen volunteers who assist with a number of children’s activities, as well as being part of the Teen Advisory Group.

We thank each and every individual who helps make your public library a dynamic, welcoming, and integral part of the Bradford West Gwillimbury community.

Interested in getting involved? Additional information and volunteer application forms are available on our website. Join us today!

Renovating to Serve You Better

Get ready for enhanced service from one handy location…

We are very pleased to announce our upcoming plans to renovate the front area of the main floor to serve you better and make it even easier to find the help and materials you need. You asked and we listened. You have told us that you would prefer to have a “one-stop-shop” for all of your Library needs. So to do this, we will be consolidating our Borrower and Information Services Desks into a single service desk.

Another great benefit of redesigning our first floor space is the improved access to the latest books, movies and music. We will have a more open and inviting space to showcase more displays.

In order to facilitate the renovations and to have the least impact on Library users, we will be undertaking this work over the Easter long weekend. As such, the Library will be closed from Thursday, April 13th at 9:00 pm until Tuesday, April 18th at 1:00 pm.

Our customer service team is looking forward to serving you even better from this new central desk and can’t wait to show you the finished results! Thank you for your patience.

For more information please read our Press Release on the renovation.
