Circle supports budding authors, journalists
What is the BWG Writers’ Circle?
• An opportunity to meet other writers,
and enjoy their company
• A chance to read a sample of your writing
to see how it resonates with the group, with the option for a
critique/advice ONLY if requested
• A chance to share ideas
• An opportunity to seek sales and marketing
advice/suggestions
• An opportunity to share news about writing
• A time for discussion
• A time to learn about upcoming educational
opportunities such as workshops or conferences, contests, other
writing circles or groups, resources (we will have a table of
samples)
• A time for motivation – to encourage
and support growth
• An opportunity to take part in short creative
writing exercises, such as writing on the spot
• A time to hear from invited guest speakers
such as professional authors, teachers, etc.
To ensure the quality of the circle, a short list of What
it is not:
• Not a time to upstage, criticize or judge
other members or their opinions. The circle is all about support,
respecting one another, and the development of the craft of writing.
Personal opinions may vary, especially on controversial subjects.
Please remember to focus on the writing, not the opinion expressed
if it differs from your own.
• Not a time to complain or vent or elaborate
on personal matters, such as a boss, a spouse, a neighbour, a
friend, dinner, prices, etc.
NOTE - If the circle members would like to socialize following
the meeting, to further develop friendships, we can arrange for
a social time to follow at a local coffee shop, restaurant or
pub.

The Bradford West Gwillimbury Writers Circle
offers an opportunity for writers to network, hear about calls
for submissions, contests, workshops or conferences, practice
writing on the spot, participate in a voluntary positive critiquing
circle, and more. Beginning and established writers are
all welcome to attend.
The group will meet regularly on the 3rd Tuesday of the month
for about an hour and a half, starting at 7:00 pm at the Library.
No fees, no registration, no commitment required, just join us
at the scheduled times. If you would like more information, please

The BWG Writers’ Circle
An evening with Dorothea Helms.
Join us for a one hour talk followed by a Q & A session
Tuesday, April 20

Compton Room @ BWG Public Library
Dorothea Helms is an award-winning, internationally published
writer and popular writing instructor. She is the author of the
highly successful book The Writing Fairy™ Guide to Calling
Yourself a Writer, and she offers courses, workshops and keynote
speeches that inspire adults to write and publish their work.
She has been teaching creative writing at Durham College (North
Campus) for more than 15 years, and is proud that many of her
students have won writing contests, started freelance careers
and become published authors. In 2006, she held the first-ever
Writing Fairy Humour Writing contest, which drew entries from
across North America.
Dorothea is also owner of Write Stuff Writing Services, through
which she provides professional writing and editing services of
all kinds to newspapers, magazines, businesses and individual
clients. Over the years, she has served as contributing editor
to dozens of publications, and has provided many writing colleagues
with paying gigs. Her work has appeared in publications such as
Homemakers, Chatelaine, The Globe and Mail, Toronto Sun and Canadian
Architecture & Design Magazine. She was featured on CBC Radio’s
“First Person Singular” twice, and has twice had personal
essays published on The Globe and Mail’s Facts & Arguments
page.

Genealogy Club
Next Meeting: March 17, 2010
The Genealogy Club's meetings are held on the third
Wednesday of each month at the library from 7
- 9 pm.
There will be no meeting in July, August and
December. If you are interested in joining the Genealogy club,
please contact the library.

Book Club
The Book Club is held on the last Wednesday of every month.
The Library usually has a few copies of the selected reading;
however, participants are generally expected to provide their
own copy.
