Tuesdays: February 2, 9, 16, 23, 2010
10:00 – 10:45 am
It’s the process, not the finished product that counts.
Children develop their fine motor skills and imagination through
creative, hands-on projects. Most important, they have FUN! Dress
for a mess.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Feb. 2 – People Snowflakes
Imagine paper doll cutouts in a circle and decorated in different
patterns with glitter and gems. Like sparkling snowflakes no two
are alike
Feb. 9 – Winter Mural
Take pride in the creation of a winter mural which will be hung
in the Children’s Room. Make a mini one to take home.
Feb. 16 – Olympics Fever
A torch, a flag and a medal of your own making will inspire you
to join in the celebrations.
Feb. 23 – A Waddle of Penguins
This comical bird in fancy clothes is always dressed for company.
Take home three penguins: a soft sculpture; an egg carton penguin;
and a third created from tracing your hand and foot.

The Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library is
offering a Reading Buddies
program beginning November 2009 through to the end of May 2010.
Reading Buddies is a literacy based program where children in
grades 2 – 7
who are having trouble with reading will meet once a week
(excluding school holidays) for one hour sessions with a volunteer
tutor.
Buddies will concentrate on reading for pleasure together and
enjoy activities
that promote reading and writing.
Tutors for this program will be secondary school students and
adults with strong literacy skills who will be trained and matched
up with a child. All tutoring will be done in the library at a
time mutually agreed upon by the tutor and child.
The library staff will monitor the program. Tutors will be responsible
for providing proof of a police check to the library.
Registering:
A parent or guardian wishing to register a child in the Reading
Buddies Program must do so in person at the Circulation Desk.
The start date for your child will depend on the availability
of trained volunteers.
Volunteering:
Interested secondary students with strong literacy skills who
wish to tutor
should obtain a high school volunteer application form at the
circulation desk or from the library website.
Interested adults with strong literacy skills who wish to tutor
should obtain a volunteer application form at the circulation
desk or from the library website.
The deadline for applications is October 1, 2009.
extended until October
Interviews will take place October 6, 7 & 8.
Each selected volunteer will then be required to attend
either the training session scheduled for
Tuesday, October 13 from
4:15 – 5:30 p.m.
or
Wednesday, October 14 from 7:00 – 8:15 p.m.
Please note: Reading Buddies is a limited project.
We regret that we may not be able to fill all requests.
