Reprint of "Governor Simcoe Slept Here"

When the Wegwhist Team launched Governor Simcoe Slept Here in December of ’05 , we underestimated your response. Hindsight, which always has 20/20 vision, would have indicated that we should have printed more copies. By the same token we didn’t anticipate that many of you would buy four and five copies. All 1,023 books found a home in a matter of four weeks and this found many asking for copies that weren’t available.

After due consideration we decided to reprint the book. Governor Simcoe arrived back in Bradford West Gwillimbury August 14, ‘06. The reprint copies are the same as the original. With your reprint copy you will receive an addendum, which corrects factual errors in the first printing that have been brought to our attention. As with the first edition we have enclosed the CD that provides the index for all the family names and an array of colour picture scenes of West Gwillimbury. Addendums have been forwarded to all the first printing buyers.

Will you please pass on the news about the reprint to relatives and friends who missed out on the first printing. Many have been in touch with us already but we know from past experience that we have a wonderful network system that will soon spread the word that copies of Governor Simcoe Slept Here are now available. As an example, Frances Bishop in Kamloops B.C., wrote to some of her relatives and friends as follows:

“ Simply put, the first volume is devoted to the many aspects of life in the township (history, including lots and lots of names) and the second volume is devoted to family histories. There are countless photographs throughout. If you are wondering whether it’s worth the investment, my experience is “YES” in capital letters. I was lucky enough to purchase a copy of the first run produced by these dedicated volunteers. The family histories will be a valuable resource forever, but they wouldn’t be half as useful without everything in Vol. 1. As a stranger to the township I’m especially grateful for the section on hamlets and villages. As an added bonus, this volume contains photos of folks related to my husband’s family, the Fraser’s of Helmsdale Farm. Included are pictures of Donald Gray that show up in the section on roads and road maintenance- a section I didn’t expect to read from start to finish.”

We had orders from a number who received Frances’ e mail. Your note to a friend or relative would be appreciated.    -The Wegwhist Team
